About Us
Who
we are
Riverwood
is a truly innovative project that was started in 2000 by
Greenwich Mencap. Riverwood enhances the lives of Adults
with Learning Disabilities (AWLD) through therapeutic work.
What
we do
Riverwood
provides productive and meaningful day time occupation for
Adults with Learning Disabilities. This is achieved by recycling
waste and driftwood that would otherwise be incinerated
or land filled to create desirable hand-finished furniture
and craft items.
Background
9
years ago Greenwich Mencap thought of an idea for a new
innovative project that would emerge as a social enterprise
and training programme for Adults with learning disabilities.
The aim was and is to provide meaningful work experience
for Adults with Learning Disabilities in Greenwich as there
is a limited range of work experience opportunities available
locally.
Starting
with providing just a single day a week service. Riverwood
soon needed to expand and now have 30 individual Team Members
each attending between one and three days per week.
